Initial Consultation

Your initial consultation at All Ability Dental will include:

  • A thorough review of your medical, dental, and social history
  • A detailed oral examination
  • An assessment of oral hygiene and dietary risks, along with preventive care advice
  • A discussion of your treatment options with relevant parties, including you, your family members (or other decision-makers), carers, support workers, and medical professionals
  • Time for administrative tasks, such as documenting and planning your treatment

We will explain your health conditions and treatment options in simple, easy-to-understand terms. If needed, we can provide written reports, and we’re always available to discuss anything you might be unsure about. You will receive a treatment plan and quote, although in some cases, particularly with complex treatments, this may not be provided on the day of your consultation.

Please note that the initial consultation fee does not include any travel fees for home visits or additional treatment services (such as x-rays and plaque removal) that may be required for a complete assessment.

Before we can schedule any appointments, we ask that you complete our registration form and medical questionnaire. This is particularly important as many of our patients cannot consent for themselves due to complex medical conditions that affect their dental treatment. If any information is incomplete, we can collect it during or after the consultation, but please be aware that this may cause a delay in the treatment plan.

For patients who no longer manage their own affairs, we require the contact details and consent of the following individuals:

  • A medical treatment decision-maker (the person responsible for medical consent), which could be a next of kin or a legally appointed individual
  • A guardian or power of attorney responsible for financial matters

We cannot proceed with treatment without the permission of these individuals. Please note that professional carers cannot provide consent unless they have been legally appointed to do so. For patients without a next of kin or appointed decision-makers, we will consult with the Office of the Public Advocate for guidance.

Written consent is also required to exchange medical information with other health professionals to ensure treatment is planned safely and effectively. Where appropriate, we may request copies of other relevant documents, such as your:

  • Oral health care plan
  • Behavioural support plan
  • Advanced care directive
